Job Title: Museum Manager

The Yellowknife Historical Society is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Museum Manager to lead the operations and activities of the Yellowknife Historical Museum. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, financial accountability, and administrative oversight to the Museum.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Museum's staff and volunteers to ensure the efficient operation of the Museum.
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote the Museum's programs and exhibitions, and to increase attendance and engagement.
  • Manage the Museum's resources, including human, financial, and physical resources, to strengthen the Museum's role in the community.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors, curatorial staff, and other museum and cultural institutions to plan and present compelling exhibitions and displays.
  • Assess historical and community cultural needs, and develop programs and exhibitions that meet those needs.
  • Prepare an annual budget for Museum operations, and participate in regular meetings with the Board of Directors to provide reports on the Museum's financial and other activities.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Museum Studies, History, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a museum or cultural institution, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Proven track record of successful fundraising and grant writing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a volunteer Board of Directors and the community.
  • Strong budgeting and financial management skills, with the ability to prepare and manage budgets.
  • Experience in human resource management, with the ability to motivate and manage staff and volunteers.
