Job Title: Full Time Residential Counsellor, Prime Worker

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Counsellor to join our team at Broadview Village, a local expression of The Salvation Army in Canada. As a Residential Counsellor, you will play a vital role in providing support and care to adults with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans to promote personal growth and independence.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to residents, while also advocating for their rights and interests.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to ensure comprehensive care and support.
  • Conduct regular assessments and evaluations to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies for success.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of resident progress and activities.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Working Conditions:
  • Work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with a high level of autonomy.
  • Interact with residents, colleagues, and external partners on a regular basis.
  • Be prepared to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds, and apply effective body mechanics to meet the physical demands of the position.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • Completed 2-3 year Developmental Services Worker Diploma or equivalent degree/diploma related to human services.
  • Valid and current Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR Level C Certificate.
  • Ability to achieve Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certificate upon hire.
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and a current copy of a Driver's abstract.
Experience and Knowledge:
  • Minimum 2-5 years' experience working with people with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges.
  • Experience with writing, implementing, and updating Individual Support Planning.
  • Medication administration experience preferred.
Skills and Capabilities:
  • Strong counselling and de-escalation support skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
