Nuclear Energy Systems Design Engineer

A pioneering opportunity awaits at Terrestrial Energy, a leading Generation-IV nuclear plant development team. We are seeking an Instrumentation and Control Engineering Intern to join our innovative team.
This is a 16-month term position starting May 1st, offering the chance to contribute to the development of a zero-emissions cogeneration plant using Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) fission technology. Our IMSR plant boasts a near 50% improvement in efficiency compared to Light Water Reactor nuclear plants, making it an attractive solution for industries seeking grid-based electric power generation and industrial cogeneration.
The successful candidate will be responsible for aiding the Instrumentation and Control team in designing, developing, and analyzing instrumentation and control systems. Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing I&C engineering design documents, including logic diagrams, calculations, analysis, and assessment documents.
- Conducting research for design development and optimization.
- Communicating with various technical disciplines to understand system designs and interfacing requirements.
- Contributing to timely resolution of instrumentation and control design challenges and addressing risks.
- Gathering and analyzing data from simulations to support design validation.

Requirements:
- Actively working towards a post-secondary degree or new graduate in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related field.
- Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines.
- Possesses good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Assets:
- Demonstrated success in project delivery and the execution of design methods.
- Working knowledge of any programming language such as C#, C++, or Python.
- Working knowledge of MS Access or other database software.
- Demonstrated passion for nuclear energy and/or reducing carbon emissions.
- Entrepreneurship or other experience demonstrating self-motivation and problem-solving.
- Experience with or knowledge of nuclear power.
Estimated Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
