About the Role: We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Residential Support Specialist to join our team at Broadview Village. As a local expression of The Salvation Army in Canada, we provide outstanding support to adults with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for residents' personal development as decided through individual support planning (ISP), and advocate on their behalf/facilitate self-advocacy to community supports in collaboration with colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
  • Remain awake and active throughout the entire shift, supporting residents during their awake hours and ensuring the well-being of residents throughout the night.
  • Complete documentation and maintain records as required, including medication administration.
  • Ensure learning opportunities are provided utilizing agency and community resources, fostering independence in residents, and maintaining cleanliness of the program/site.
  • Provide orientation and/or support to co-workers, students, volunteers, and/or family members, following and promoting the agencies and House program goal and philosophy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Completed 2–3-year Developmental Services Worker Diploma or other equivalent degree/diploma related to human services.
  • Valid and current Standard First Aid Certificate CPR Level C Certificate, and ability to achieve Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certificate upon hire.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and a current copy of a Driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 6 months to 1-year experience working with people with developmental disabilities and preferably working with individuals who have a dual diagnosis of mental health challenges and developmental disabilities.
  • Experience with writing, implementing, and updating Individual Support Planning, and medication administration experience preferred.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Strong counselling/de-escalation support skills required, ability to successfully complete all mandatory training as required by the agency, and ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully.
