Job Summary:

The Vancouver Aquarium is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Veterinary Technician to join our team. As a key member of our marine mammal rehabilitation team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care and support to our patients, including marine mammals, birds, and other wildlife.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterinarians with daily routine and non-routine veterinary treatments and procedures, including anesthesia, surgery, and diagnostic imaging.
  • Provide emergency care for critical patients and participate in research programs, including collection, processing, and storage of samples.
  • Prepare prescriptions, dispense and administer medication, and maintain detailed administrative records.
  • Communicate with veterinarians and remote application of medical treatment plans.
  • Assist in supervision and training of volunteers and practicum students.
  • Participate in the preparation of animals for release, including tagging and microchipping.
  • Maintain organizational safety standards and release rehabilitated animals.

Requirements:

  • Veterinary Technologist or Veterinary Technician Diploma/Degree.
  • Proof of current registration status with local VT Association.
  • Essential knowledge in marine mammal anatomy and physiology.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Previous experience with wildlife or marine mammal species preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to animal bites, pathogens & chemicals.
  • Job requires high degree of alertness to changing conditions when working with animals.
  • Requires standing for periods of time.
  • Requires working rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and potential for overnight shifts.
  • Exposure to slippery conditions and uneven surfaces.
  • Required to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely lift 20kgs.

Salary Range: $24 - $34 PER HOUR
