Economist Role in Renewable Energy Infrastructure Development

The BC Public Service Agency is seeking a Senior Economist to join its Electricity Policy Branch (EPB). This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with diverse partners, including government, industry, regulators, First Nations, and environmental groups, to address complex challenges and drive investment in renewable energy and transmission infrastructure.
About the Team
The EPB is a dynamic and collaborative team within the Ministry of Energy and Climate Solutions Electricity and Utility Regulatory Division (EURD). With 18 talented professionals, including policy analysts, economists, managers, and Indigenous relations leads, the EPB works on advancing electrification and reducing carbon emissions in B.C. by overseeing electricity policy, utility operations and build and maintain relationships with BC Hydro and the BC Utilities Commission.
The Role
In this role, you will play a pivotal part in advancing B.C.'s transition to a net-zero economy. By applying your expertise in electricity transmission and trade, you'll provide strategic economic research and policy recommendations that shape the future of clean energy infrastructure in the province. This position requires a Master's Degree in Economics or a related field and five years of related work experience in natural resource and energy industry analysis. Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with diverse partners to address complex challenges and drive investment in renewable energy and transmission infrastructure.
- Apply your expertise in electricity transmission and trade to provide strategic economic research and policy recommendations.
- Work with the EPB team to advance electrification and reduce carbon emissions in B.C.

Educational Requirements
A Master's Degree in Economics or a related field such as statistics, mathematics, business administration, commerce, public administration, engineering, natural resource management or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in electricity market analysis, supervising staff, and preparing briefing materials, legislative documents, Treasury Board and Cabinet submissions, and public presentations.
