Job Summary

Rogers Communications is seeking a skilled Multilingual News Reporter to join our dynamic team in Vancouver. As a key member of our Chinese news team, you will be responsible for sourcing, chasing, reporting, developing, and presenting compelling news stories for both national and regional broadcasts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Generate Fresh Story Ideas: Develop and pitch original story ideas that capture the attention of our audience.
  • Breaking News Coverage: Respond quickly and accurately to breaking news, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Story Development and Presentation: Edit, chase, report, and voice stories for the newscast, working under tight deadlines to deliver high-quality content.
  • Interviews and Research: Conduct interviews with experts, guests, and sources within the community, and translate and repackage stories as required.
  • Editorial Meetings: Participate in editorial meetings to discuss story ideas, assignments, and other editorial matters.
  • Anchor Support: Back up anchoring as required, ensuring seamless coverage of news events.
Requirements
  • Journalism Experience: Proven experience in journalism and media, with a strong understanding of newsroom operations.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese, both oral and written, is essential for this role.
  • Cultural Knowledge: Knowledge of the cultural and political landscape in BC is required, as well as experience writing, producing, and/or reporting broadcast news content.
  • Field Experience: Field experience is an asset, as is the ability to juggle multiple tasks and deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Communication Skills: Superior communication, writing, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills are necessary for success in this role.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of newsroom computer software, are required.
  • Education: A degree or diploma in journalism or broadcasting (or equivalent experience) is necessary for this position.
