Correctional Nurse

At the Manitoba Government, we are seeking a skilled Correctional Nurse to join our team at the Milner Ridge Correctional Centre.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality healthcare services to inmates, including assessing and treating acute and chronic health care needs, administering medication, and providing education and support to inmates and staff.

• Respond to emergency situations and assess immediate health care needs
• Conduct medical examinations and provide treatment for illnesses and injuries
• Administer medication and provide education to inmates and staff
• Triage and refer clients to appropriate healthcare professionals
• Develop and implement treatment plans for inmates

• Nursing licensure in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM), or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM), College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM)
• Satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Security Check, Satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check and Internal Screening Check
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Professional Certification
• Satisfactory Certificate of Medical Fitness
• Ability to work days, evenings, and weekends

• Experience in a similar environment such as emergency, medical, surgical or community programs
• Knowledge of communicable diseases, main signs and symptoms of alcohol or drug misuse
• Knowledge of Indigenous culture

The incumbent will be a member of the healthcare team reporting to the Health Services Manager in the correctional centre. Some weekend and shift work will be required.
