Job Title: Property Accountant

Join Verve Senior Living as a Property Accountant and take on a challenging role that requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for managing the financial operations of our properties, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and providing financial guidance to our management team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the full accounting cycle, including general ledger, account reconciliation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll for our properties.
  • Prepare journal entries for both day-to-day and month-end transactions.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, working papers, and financial reports.
  • Maintain and reconcile sub-ledgers to G/L.
  • Prepare/assist with monthly balance sheet reconciliations and a complete set of year-end working papers.
  • Review financial information, analyze and process that information, and take the appropriate action if necessary.
  • Analyze, investigate, and resolve monthly variances.
  • Prepare monthly variances report on significant matters to the operations and/or controller.
  • Responsible for remittance of payroll related amounts, including Federal tax, CPP, EI, Workers Compensation and EHT.
  • Monitor cash flow and prepare cash flow projections, where applicable.
  • Prepare budgets and forecasts for our properties.
  • Track capital expenditure against capital budgets and ensure proper categorization and depreciation of assets.
  • Advises and provides finance support to our properties as required.
  • Liaises with resident GM's and research and resolve properties inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP.
  • Prepare year-end audit packages and liaise with external auditors.
  • Ensure that all regulatory and government returns and reporting (GST/HST, annual returns) are filed on time.
  • Coordinates and works with investor group in order to comply with their requirements in a timely manner.
  • Works independently and with minimum supervision.
  • Complies with all corporate policies and procedures.
  • Completes all required mandatory training and education.
  • Performs other related tasks as delegated by the Controller and/or Director of Finance.
  • Some travel required.
  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
  • Complies with all corporate policies and procedures.
  • Completes all required mandatory training/education.
