Financial Operations Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Financial Operations Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for accurately processing accounts payable payments in accordance with established internal procedures.
Responsibilities- Process accounts payable payments in accordance with established processes.
- Communicate with stakeholders, such as suppliers, to clarify information or resolve disputes regarding payment timelines.
- Liaise with business unit leaders to obtain approval for payments.
- Handle scanned documents with low data recognition and enter missing data into accounting systems.
- Review documents for compliance and completeness against established requirements, identifying non-compliant items and obtaining necessary information to ensure compliance.
- Determine the appropriate accounting codes for documents based on business unit and expense/cost element type.
- Perform mathematical calculations to verify accuracy and identify errors, liaising with stakeholders for resolution.
- Validate accounts payable documents against supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness, resolving issues and discrepancies in transactional accounting.
- Handle validation, matching, coding, and approval exceptions, liaising with business unit leaders for approval.
- Prepare electronic fund transfers and cheques for payments.
- Enter accounts payable transactions into accounting systems.
- A community college diploma in accounting is preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in clerical accounting/accounts payable work.
- An understanding of sales tax rules.
- The ability to execute work according to established procedures.
- The ability to identify and resolve accounts payable issues and discrepancies.
- Basic mathematical calculation skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, along with the ability to identify inaccuracies in data.
- The ability to process a high volume of data requiring strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication skills for data exchange, clarification, and dispute resolution.
- The ability to exercise judgment.
- Proficiency in accounting systems, MS Office Excel, and other MS Office software applications, along with the ability to quickly learn other information systems and software applications.
As a Financial Operations Specialist, you can expect a competitive salary of $55,000 - $65,000 per annum, depending on experience.
