Offshore Radio Operator Job Description

Wood is currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Radio Operator to join our team offshore in Newfoundland and Labrador. As a Radio Operator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our offshore facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain radio communication equipment to facilitate communication between offshore personnel and shore-based teams.
  • Monitor and respond to emergency situations, including search and rescue operations.
  • Collaborate with other offshore personnel to ensure seamless communication and coordination.
  • Participate in regular training and drills to maintain and improve radio communication skills.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience as a Radio Operator in an offshore environment, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
  • General Operators Certificate endorsed for GMDSS issued by Industry Canada.
  • GMDSS Certificate from an accredited GMDSS training institution.
  • Aviation and marine weather observer certification from a recognized institution or qualified instructor.
  • Restricted Operators Aeronautical (ROA) Certificate.
  • Regulatory Training required for offshore travel, such as Basic Survival Training (BST), H2S Alive, and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
  • Effective communication skills, including written, oral, and computer-based communication.
  • Qualified to MANMAR & METAR standard with INDS Weather.
  • Radar Navigation Certification ARPA.
  • Familiarity with Canadian Rescue Coordination Centre and procedures.
  • Familiarity with ECAREG procedures.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management system.
  • Demonstrated teamwork behaviors consistent with company values.
  • Familiarity with quality processes.
  • Ability to recognize and resolve conflict.
  • Maintain mandatory training and certification for continued offshore work.
  • Experience working in a producing offshore oil and gas facility or petrochemical environment.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must pass a site-specific drug and alcohol test and CAPP Medical as required by the customer.
  • Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50lbs.
  • Must possess enough strength and stamina to perform the technical duties and essential functions.
  • Able to move and work in confined spaces, following proper protocol.
  • May be required to work 12-hour shifts performing physical labor in varying temperature extremes and conditions.
  • Must be able to climb and maintain balance on stairs, ladders, scaffolds, and steel framework, utilizing proper fall arrest procedures when required.
  • Able to safely and comfortably work at heights without posing a danger to oneself or others.
  • Able to meet physical requirements of frequent walking, climbing, standing, bending, twisting, and crawling for the duration of the shift.
