About the Role

We are currently seeking a skilled Geriatric Mental Health Clinician Specialist to join our multidisciplinary team. This role will involve providing assessment, treatment, consultation, and follow-up services to mentally ill elderly clients of special complexity and difficulty, as well as their caregivers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Services: Provide clinical services to elderly clients and their caregivers, including screening and assessing referrals, completing comprehensive psychosocial assessments, contributing advice and expertise to recommendations, consultations, and treatment planning in conjunction with other team members.
  • Treatment Planning and Interventions: Develop and implement treatment plans using various psychosocial treatment modalities, crisis intervention, and family counseling through home visits and outreach.
  • Collateral Information Collection: Gather collateral information for team assessments related to competency (personal and financial).
  • Follow-Up and Monitoring: Provide follow-up and ongoing monitoring of complex psychosocial situations, as well as referral services where required.
  • Interdisciplinary Teamwork: Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team by coordinating work and cooperating with members of the team, including attendance at team meetings and relevant conferences.
  • Clinical Documentation: Maintain clinical and statistical documentation according to established policies and procedures.
  • Consultation and Education: Provide consultation, support, and informal education to families and other informal caregivers of clients.
  • Community Liaison: Facilitate client and caregiver utilization of appropriate community services by keeping knowledgeable about other services and liaising with them.
  • Care and Treatment Plans: Develop and implement care and treatment plans for shared clients in cooperation with care facility staff, physicians, Home Health, Specialized Seniors Clinics, and other appropriate partners.
  • Advocacy: Act as an advocate on behalf of clients and their families.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain records and statistics, and prepare written reports according to policies and procedures.
  • Crisis Intervention: Provide crisis intervention when needed.
  • Liaison with Facilities/Agencies: Establish and maintain regular scheduled liaison with assigned facilities/agencies in the community.
  • Consultation and Advice: Provide consultation and advice to colleagues and other teams.
  • Roland Service Provision: Interpret the role of geriatric teams to community groups and agencies.
  • Mental Health and Substance Use Services: Participate in Mental Health and Substance Use Services training and planning activities as required.
  • Student Supervision: Supervise students as caseload permits.
  • Education and Consultation: Provide consultation and education to referral agencies, care facilities, and caregivers towards improved care of the elderly with mental illness, representing the team on local committees and advisory boards as required.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A Master's degree in Social Work, Clinical Counselling, or a relevant health-related discipline.
  • One year's recent, related experience with Geriatric psychiatry clients in a recognized psychiatric and/or community mental health setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Eligibility for registration with the relevant professional association.
  • A valid Class V BC Driver's Licence and possession of a personal vehicle.

Compensation Package

The salary for this role is estimated to be between CAD $42.27 - $52.81 per hour. Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and extended health insurance, as well as a generous pension plan.
