A leading fintech company seeks an experienced Product Counsel to advise their payments product teams in Canada on regulatory matters.

Job Summary

The ideal candidate will have 6+ years of experience as a Canadian licensed lawyer, with significant payments experience and expertise in consumer laws, rules, and regulations.

About the Role

This is a full-time contract role (40 hours/week) for an initial 9-month term. The Product Counsel will provide legal advice to Product teams on the company's BNPL offerings in Canada, including:

  • Reviewing frameworks, policies, and processes to comply with the Retail Payments Activities Act (RPAA)
  • Advising on implementation of IDV requirements and MAP requirements
  • Providing guidance on allowing merchants to use BNPL products embedded within e-commerce websites and mobile applications
  • Supporting product management regulatory work, including license maintenance and responding to regulatory requests

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing product (and potentially regulatory) legal support for BNPL and payments products in Canada
  • Draft and revise terms of use and other disclaimers
  • Review wireframes and flows
  • Advise on product-specific issues and regulatory issues
  • Support regulatory required provisions
