About the Role

We invite applications for a Geoscientist, Assistant Professor, Tenure-Track position at the University of British Columbia. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, interdisciplinary Earth Sciences department and contribute to advancing our understanding of mineral deposits, particularly critical minerals.

The role involves developing and integrating state-of-the-art concepts with field-based data, utilizing expertise in mineralogy, petrology, geochemistry, geochronology, mineral system science, geomechanics, and orebody knowledge.

Candidates should possess a strong record of research productivity and be able to communicate a clear vision for fundamental science discoveries and societally relevant advancements in critical mineral geosciences. They will be expected to establish a robust, externally funded, and internationally recognized research program, supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in geology or related disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead a research program focused on critical mineral geosciences, with a strong emphasis on discovery and development of novel mineral deposits.
  • Conduct and publish high-impact research in top-tier journals, with a focus on advancing our understanding of geological processes and their applications in critical mineral geosciences.
  • Teach and mentor graduate and undergraduate students in geology and related disciplines, with a focus on developing their research skills and critical thinking.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the department and university, as well as with industry partners and government agencies, to advance research and innovation in critical mineral geosciences.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in geology, a related earth science discipline, or engineering at the time of appointment.
  • A strong record of research productivity, with a focus on advancing our understanding of mineral deposits, particularly critical minerals.
  • Excellent communication and teaching skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences.
