The City of Calgary is seeking a skilled Senior Labour Relations Lawyer to join their in-house legal team. This position offers counsel to The City's Human Resources (HR) business unit and City leadership, requiring expertise in labour relations, employment, Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), and human rights matters.

About the Job
  • Provide strategic advice and opinions on labour relations, employment, OH&S, and human rights related issues.
  • Draft and review various agreements and documents.
  • Represent The City at labour arbitration, mediation, and other hearings.
  • Collaborate with the Labour Relations team on diverse areas and issues, including collective agreements.

This role requires strong analytical skills, effective communication, and the ability to thrive in a team environment.

Requirements
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.), Bachelor of Laws (LL.B), or equivalent degree from a recognized institution and active membership or eligibility for membership with The Law Society of Alberta.
  • At least 5 years of experience in labour and employment law; preference given to applicants with at least 8 years of experience.
  • Experience conducting hearings and dealing with public sector unions considered an asset.
Compensation

Salary commensurate with experience:

  • Lawyer 2: $103,249 - $158,137 per annum (typically 5-8 years' experience)
  • Lawyer 3: $118,148 - $185,884 per annum (typically 8+ years' experience)

This position works a standard 35 hour work week and offers competitive benefits.
