Job Summary

The Senior Investment Operations Analyst is a key member of the Technology and Operations group at CPP Investments. This role is responsible for the ongoing evaluation, accounting, and monitoring of the Private Investments portfolio, with a focus on Real Assets and Private Equity investments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transaction Management: Review trade tickets and accounting entries for accuracy, ensuring figures agree with transacted amounts, completeness of supporting documentation, and appropriate authorizations are in place to facilitate investment closings.
  • Complex Transaction Processing: Assist in processing complex transactions and understand implications on accounting, reporting, and performance.
  • Reporting and Reconciliation: Ensure timely completion and accuracy of various reports and reconciliations relating to benchmarking, portfolio holdings, and P&L.
  • Issue Identification and Resolution: Identify issues and assist in determining corrective action, promptly escalating irregular activities or issues.
  • Valuation Review: Assist in the quarterly valuation review and ensure valuation adjustments are accurately recorded.
  • Process Documentation: Ensure process documentation is kept up to date.
  • Internal and External Stakeholder Management: Maintain an ongoing effective working relationship with internal investment staff and external asset managers to ensure issues are discussed and resolved, financial controls and reporting requirements are met.
  • Accounting Policy Monitoring: Monitor the accounting policies of each of the portfolio investments and ensure accounting records of CPP Investments are maintained both accurately and timely.
  • Agreement and Documentation Management: Ensure all agreements and documentation are complete and up to date.
  • Team Leadership: Provide guidance and direction to Analysts on the team.
  • Compliance and Operational Excellence: Ensure ongoing compliance with reporting requirements and resolve discrepancies when exceptions occur. Continually strive for operational excellence, seeking ways to streamline processes and create operational efficiencies.
  • Workload Management: Prioritize workload in a timely fashion to meet deadlines.
Qualifications
  • Education: Undergraduate or master's degree in Finance, Commerce, Economics, or other related discipline.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of computer programming languages such as VBA and Python. Advanced Excel skills and comfortable learning new systems.
  • Professional Designations: Professional designations such as CFA or CPA are considered an asset.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 4 years relevant work experience.
  • Investment Knowledge: Good understanding of Private Equity or Real Assets investing and banking settlement systems.
  • Analytical and Financial Skills: Strong analytical, financial, and management accounting skills will be necessary to perform this role.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Team player who enjoys working in a high-performing culture and is open to evolving and changing priorities. Strong written and verbal communication skills with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Organizational and Time Management Skills: Solid prioritization and organization skills with exceptional attention to detail. Self-motivated, flexible, and adaptable.
