Job Title: Biologist

Job Summary:

  • Conduct comprehensive fish habitat assessments to determine suitability and provide mitigation measures for construction projects.
  • Classify watercourses under the Water Act COPs and Public Lands Act, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and submit federal and provincial regulatory notifications and approval applications.
  • Conduct fish salvage/rescue and water quality monitoring, ensuring the protection of aquatic ecosystems.
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring timely and effective project completion.
  • Implement corporate and client safety programs, promoting a safe working environment.
  • Provide assistance to senior staff and train junior staff as required, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and development.

Requirements:

  • Must possess a post-secondary degree in biological sciences, a technical diploma in biological sciences, or educational equivalencies.
  • Must have or be eligible for a designation of professional biologist and QAES.
  • Possess 5+ years of related experience.
  • Advanced working knowledge of provincial and federal water, wildlife, and fisheries acts.
  • Must have knowledge of aquatic environments, experience in fisheries, and aquatic environment assessment methods, as well as experience determining mitigation measures required to maintain aquatic habitats.
  • Willingness to travel and work in the field for extended periods.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and database entry.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Good physical health and ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.
  • Willingness to work within a team environment.
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks.
