Research Engineer III

McMaster University is seeking a skilled Research Engineer III to join our team in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
As a Research Engineer III, you will be responsible for providing specialized engineering services in the field of optical communication. Your primary focus will be on designing, developing, and coordinating research projects and contracts related to satellite-to-ground optical communication systems.
- Design, fabricate, and assemble equipment and instruments that require novel engineering techniques.
- Apply specialized knowledge to review and critically appraise published literature.
- Conduct research experiments using specialized equipment and instruments.
- Identify, analyze, and solve complex problems in research contracts and projects.
- Apply standardized engineering principles to solve problems.
- Collect, evaluate, and analyze data.
- Identify and recommend new approaches and methodologies for research.
- Write sections of scientific reports and papers for publication.
- Format and summarize data for research reports.
- Develop and deliver technical presentations to colleagues and industry partners.
- Provide leadership for research projects by defining resource needs and setting schedules.
- Provide financial and resource planning for research projects.
- Provide technical advice to colleagues and students.
- Liaise with external clients and project partners.
To be successful in this role, you will need a Master's degree in Engineering in a relevant field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. Familiarity with optics, telecommunications, and astronomy is an asset.
