Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant, Pre Post Analysis to join our team at Provincial Laboratory Medicine Services (PLMS). As a Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory services, providing exceptional patient care, and contributing to the delivery of high-quality laboratory results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and process blood and other specimens, adhering to Fraser Health policies and procedures.
  • Prepare specimens for analysis, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and distribution, as well as assisting with gross exams.
  • Perform clerical duties, such as computer data entry, communication of test results, and handling inquiries from healthcare team members.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including temperature checks on fridges, incubators, autoclaves, and water baths.
  • Prepare reagents, media, and specimen collection materials, and distribute as required.
  • Load specimens for analysis on barcode-enhanced automated and semi-automated equipment.
  • Perform laboratory tests, such as urine dipsticks and glucose tests, using urinalysis machines and glucose meters.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to established policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Lab Assistant training program, plus one year's recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
