Aquatics Director

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Aquatics Director to lead our Aquatics team at the Markham YMCA Health & Fitness Centre. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the daily operation of the pool, ensuring compliance with health and safety protocols, and providing leadership to program excellence.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement all aquatics programs offered by the HFR facility
- Oversee and give leadership to Children and Youth programs, ensuring quality and variety of choices for families
- Develop and monitor departmental budget and maintain accountability, responsibility, and control for the departmental fiscal goals
- Conduct internal audits and ensure staff team and department are in compliance with regards to Qualifications, Trainings, Safety and Emergency Procedures, Operational Procedures, Lifeguard Stations and Rotations, Uniforms and Equipment, Administration, and SAM excellence
- Ensure that department staff are provided with appropriate orientation and training, conduct WHMIS training, and teach and/or provide support to instructors who teach Bronze Star, Junior Lifeguard Club, Senior Lifeguard Club, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, and RRS programs
- Provide leadership to children and youth programs, establish rapport and maintain effective relationship-building behaviors with staff and members, and represent the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner
- Understand and integrate the value of philanthropy and volunteerism and impart this knowledge and belief upon staff, volunteers, and members
- Diploma or Degree in Recreation Leadership, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or related field preferred
- WHMIS training and Pool Operator's certification preferred
- Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to speak multiple languages an asset
- Excellent time management, attention to detail, and organizational skills; computer skills; willingness to learn new computer programs
- Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity
- Excellent understanding of diversity, inclusion, and equity, including the ability to identify and address barriers, work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and integrate equity into program design
- Focus on the health, safety, and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs, including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services
