Job Title: Director of Indigenous Health Program

BC Children's and Women's Hospital & Health Centre is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Indigenous Health Program to lead our Indigenous Health Program. The successful candidate will provide expert advice and consultation to the CW Senior Leadership Team on identifying ongoing and emerging health needs and systemic health service barriers that the Indigenous women, youth, child and newborn population experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide an Indigenous lens to CW programs to ensure program design and scope are fully inclusive of and culturally safe for Indigenous people.
  • Develop and implement strategies to address health service barriers and improve health outcomes for Indigenous populations.
  • Lead and direct the provincial Indigenous women, youth, children and newborn health strategies, utilizing provincial strategies to establish priorities in the CW Indigenous Health Program.
  • Develop and maintain key partnerships with relevant health agencies, educational facilities, and Indigenous communities and groups.
  • Provide leadership and representation of CW Indigenous Health at CW health planning and policy development boards/committees for Indigenous patients and their families.
Requirements:
  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Masters degree in a relevant discipline, such as Indigenous studies, nursing, population and public health, epidemiology, health psychology, or sociology, with a minimum of ten (10) years of recent, related experience working with Indigenous communities in a hospital or public health care, including eight (8) years at a senior management/leadership level and significant Indigenous health-focused experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian colonial impacts on Indigenous people in social and health contexts, supported by significant knowledge of Canadian and Indigenous ideologies, including knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultural safety, cultural humility, Indigenous-specific racism and anti-racism.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), In Plain Sight, Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls calls for justice, and other related policies and reports.
  • Lived experience with Indigenous populations and demonstrated extensive knowledge of Indigenous health care needs, services, and issues.
