Railserve Switchman

Railserve, Canada is seeking a skilled Switchman to join our team. As a Switchman, you will be responsible for operating electric, diesel-electric, or gas-turbine-electric locomotives, pumping liquid chemicals, and interpreting train orders and signals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate hand or ground throw switches, derails, gates, and other equipment.
  • Control movement of equipment by radio, hands, and lantern.
  • Apply and release hand brakes to secure or move equipment.
  • Handle air hoses, wheel chocks, coupling, and uncoupling of rail cars.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma (or equivalent) preferred but not required.
  • Military experience helpful.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and develop a plan to complete them in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.

Working Environment:

This incumbent regularly works in an outdoor environment, in various weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic chemicals.
