Job Summary:


We are seeking an experienced Automation Control Technologist to join our team at the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. As a key member of our Water and Wastewater Services department, you will be responsible for maintaining and developing our infrastructure, ensuring efficient operations, and providing exceptional service to our community.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and upgrade automation control systems, including SCADA, PLC, and HMI platforms, in accordance with IEC 1131-3 standards.
  • Design and integrate new logic for PLC/HMI/SCADA systems as needed, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance.
  • Participate in site acceptance testing (SAT) and commissioning for PLC/HMI/SCADA systems, guaranteeing compliance with industry standards.
  • Respond to call-outs for Process Control System field service, providing timely and effective solutions to minimize downtime and ensure continuity of operations.
  • Develop and maintain long-term technology plans related to the continuing operational requirements and projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Prepare and issue reports, statistics, and undertake special projects, utilizing data analysis skills to inform decision-making and drive process improvements.
  • Train operators, end users, technologists, and other staff as required, promoting knowledge sharing and capacity building within the organization.
  • Ensure the upkeep of all required documentation blueprints, schematics, databases, and process control manuals, maintaining accurate records and facilitating knowledge transfer.
  • Research and make recommendations on both software and hardware products and services in support of procurement and development efforts, staying up-to-date with industry trends and best practices.
  • Review and analyze existing applications, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate positive and supportive leadership in efficiency and technology, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Five years of experience in industrial control system programming, with two years of experience providing support for SCADA systems.
  • Proven ability to employ a Management of Change Process as it relates to Automation Control.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare written reports.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques in PLC programming.
  • Decision-making, troubleshooting, organizational, and conflict resolution skills are essential.
  • Ability to present automation and control concepts in technical and plain language terms to non-technical staff individually and in groups.
  • Water and wastewater knowledge, chemistry and mechanical knowledge (pumps, motors) would be an asset.


Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary range of $ $90,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. Additionally, we provide a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision coverage, as well as a generous retirement plan.
