About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our team in the Mental Health Unit. As a key member of our inter-professional healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient-focused care to individuals with less complex needs, demonstrating more predictable outcomes and lower risk for negative outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Safely practice nursing in all aspects of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
  • Provide professional, patient-centered care to ensure patient safety and physiological and psychological well-being.
  • Cultivate a caring and compassionate environment within a diverse cultural context.
  • Practice infection control and prevention measures.
  • Respond to emergency situations by recognizing changes in patient health status and consulting appropriately when necessary.
  • Offer health education to patients and families, including thorough discharge instructions, to ensure continuity of care in the community.
Requirements
  • A minimum of two years' experience in mental health, acquired within the last five years.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention models and the Mental Health Act.
  • Ability to recognize and intervene in clinical and psychosocial situations where behavior management is required.
Competencies
  • Current registration and good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Sound knowledge of the nursing process, theory, and responsibilities to the nursing profession.
  • BCLS certification required.
  • Medication Administration certificate and patient assessment course required for RPNs graduating prior to 2005.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an inter-professional team.
  • Knowledge of patient- and family-centered care.
  • Experience with patient and family health teaching.
  • Leadership and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent customer service, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment.
  • Exemplary clinical practice within an inter-professional team to develop appropriate strategies for patient care.
  • Ability to prioritize patient care needs and make autonomous decisions.
  • Excellent physical assessment skills.
  • Promoting a healthy work environment and practicing client safety guidelines.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
