Associate Vice President, Estates and Gift Planning

About the Role:

As a key member of the University Health Network team, the Associate Vice President, Estates and Gift Planning will play a critical role in driving the organization's strategic goals and objectives. Reporting to the Vice President, Major & Transformational Gifts, this senior leader will be responsible for leading and growing the Estates & Gift Planning program, with a focus on cultivating and soliciting new planned giving prospects, and providing expertise and advice to senior fundraising staff on complex lifetime gifts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive estate and gift planning strategy to drive growth and revenue for the University Health Network.
  • Lead a team of professionals in the Estates & Gift Planning function, providing guidance and support to ensure the successful execution of program goals and objectives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, professional advisors, and senior leaders, to advance the organization's mission and goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement marketing and stewardship strategies to engage donors and prospects.
  • Provide expertise and advice on complex gift planning strategies, including trusts, annuities, and other planned giving vehicles.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations related to estate and gift planning.
  • Develop and manage budgets and financial plans to achieve program goals and objectives.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in progressive leadership roles in fundraising and/or Estates & Gift Planning.
  • Experience working in complex healthcare and/or academic environments is preferred.
  • Experience leading a team in the Estates & Gift Planning function is preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of tax and other legislation related to estates and gift planning.
  • Proficiency in gift planning strategies and vehicles.
  • Strong understanding of the Canadian philanthropic landscape.
  • Excellent relationship management skills, including agility in navigating complex dynamics with donors, their families, and professional advisors.
  • Effective collaboration and negotiation skills when working with lawyers, estate trustees, and professional advisors.
