Wastewater Operations Manager

Reporting to the Supervisor of Lift Stations, you will be responsible for overseeing the operations and maintenance of sanitary and storm lift stations, force mains, air valve maintenance, and odor control sites across the city.
This position requires a high degree of autonomy, with minimal supervision, and demands strong problem-solving skills, analytical abilities, and excellent communication skills. As a Wastewater Operations Manager, you will work closely with internal clients and citizens to provide exceptional customer service, while also ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
We offer a competitive salary package, including an estimated annual salary of $102,000-$120,000, based on experience, plus benefits, such as pension plans and comprehensive health insurance. Key responsibilities include:
- Performing lift station operation and maintenance
- Providing emergency response during lift station failure, flooding, and power outages
- Deploying and operating portable Emergency Lift Station (ELS) units
- Maintaining odour control sites
- Inspecting and maintaining air valves and Chestermere force main
- Providing exceptional customer service to internal clients and citizens
- Supporting the training and coaching of Lift Stations Pump Operators
- Maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for lift station staff
- Assigning work and overseeing the performance of subordinates, including timekeeping
To succeed in this role, you will require:
- A High School diploma or equivalent and a Level 1 Wastewater Collection Operator Certification from Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP)
- At least 4 years of experience working with wastewater collection systems
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending
- Lift Station Design or Pump Design courses would be considered an asset
- Ability and willingness to use software and desktop or remote devices
- Well-developed problem-solving abilities and analytical skills
Please note that this position requires rotating standby/on-call duties to respond to alarms, ELS deployment, and emergencies. Working conditions may include exposure to odours, extreme temperatures, loud noises, dampness, untreated wastewater, and fumes. A portion of the work is performed in an office environment.
