Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Press Operator to join our team at Almag Aluminum. As a Press Operator, you will be responsible for operating the extrusion press in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring high-quality products that meet our company's standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate the Extrusion Press: Efficiently operate the extrusion press, maintaining good quality and adhering to our quality standards.
  • Monitor Equipment Performance: Keep track of equipment performance, ensuring the press is well-tuned and temperatures are properly managed.
  • Runout Efficiency: Monitor runout efficiency, including length, speed, and finish.
  • Work Order Reference: Reference work orders to ensure the press is running at optimal speeds to maximize productivity.
  • Billet Zone Temperatures: Ensure billet zone temperatures are set up, monitored, and maintained throughout the runs.
  • Die Management: Ensure all necessary tooling is available at the beginning and throughout the shift.
  • Die Changes: Load dies into the press and ensure presses are not waiting for die changes.
  • Communication: Communicate directly with team leads and maintenance teams if any mechanical breakdowns or issues are encountered.
  • Billet Management:
  • Ensure proper billets are in the ovens and monitor the supply to keep the press going.
Ensure average speeds are followed based on information contained on work orders.EPICS Entries: Enter all downtime, die fails, quality issues, and schedule adherence notes in EPICS.Quality Checks: Maintain quality checks at the front end of the press during operation and continuously throughout the shift.Sample Management: Ensure press samples are properly labelled and kept together for traceability.Documentation: Ensure all billets and alloys used are accounted for in EPICS and documented accurately.Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Education/Experience: High school diploma with some technical background and mechanical aptitude. Extrusion experience is an asset.
  • Technical Skills/Competence: 1-2 years' experience in an industrial environment. Knowledge of machinery and ability to read drawings is an asset. Willingness to train and develop as a saw operator/inspector, stretcher operator, and die preparation operator is required.
  • Computer Skills: Basic computer skills, including MS Windows, are required. Other MS software is an asset.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50lbs independently and up to 100lbs in collaboration with a team member.
