Job Summary

Fraser Health is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to fill the role of Site Leader. This position is responsible for overseeing direct patient care and supervising staff at Royal Columbian Hospital on weekends and evenings.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Coordinate and oversee the delivery of direct patient care at the hospital after hours, on weekends, and as assigned.
  2. Direct and supervise Patient Care Coordinators and/or Charge Nurses, ensuring effective patient care and safety.
  3. Liaise with the Access Coordinator and BC Bedline to facilitate patient transfers and resolve care issues.
  4. Assess critical situations and make decisions on bed utilization and authorization of bed openings.
  5. Ensure safe care by allocating staff and authorizing overtime as needed.
  6. Collaborate with the Staffing Office to maintain optimal staffing levels and monitor overtime.
  7. Interview, select, and supervise staff, providing input for performance appraisals.
  8. Investigate and resolve staff issues in accordance with collective agreement provisions and hospital policies.
  9. Attend to problem/conflict situations, customer service/client relations issues, and facilitate successful resolution.
  10. Ensure follow-up to the contingency staffing plan in clinical areas and communicate concerns/issues to the Manager(s), Clinical Operations.
  11. Accountable for the optimal use of patient care resources, identifying opportunities for improved utilization and providing input into the budget.
  12. Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, procedures, protocols, and standards related to patient care.
  13. Identify quality improvement opportunities and promote continuous quality improvement activities.
  14. Promote and monitor safe work practices and enforcement of health & safety requirements.
  15. Implement safety, fire prevention, and evacuation procedures as required.
  16. Collaborate with managers/educators to provide opportunities for continuous learning to ensure staff remain current with best practices.
  17. Promote research-based practice by collaborating with others and promoting staff awareness and involvement in research activities.
  18. Participate on designated local and regional program and professional committees as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an approved School of Nursing.

Five (5) years' recent, relevant, acute care experience, including a minimum of two (2) years' experience in a supervisory and/or administrative capacity or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with patients, families, the public, medical staff, and members of interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to operate related equipment, including proven ability to utilize computer technology.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
