EMT Ambulance Specialist

Your Opportunity:

This position is part of the Overdose Prevention Site providing harm reduction and supervised consumption services, based in Lethbridge. The site is currently located outside of the Alpha House shelter. These services are part of a range of evidence-based services that support prevention, harm reduction and treatment for Albertans living with substance use challenges. The Overdose Prevention Site provides a place where people can use drugs in a monitored, hygienic environment to reduce harm from substance use while offering wrap-around services such as counselling and referrals to services such as housing and treatment, opioid agonist therapy, detox, income support.

Description:

As a Primary Care Paramedic, you will be a part of the OPS. You will support clients coping with addictions and will work through case management in a multidisciplinary team of Addiction Counsellors, Peer Support Workers, Paramedics and Nursing staff in the Program. This position will provide assessment, evaluation and oversight of the patient's care and help navigate clients in crisis to reduce impacts on individuals, families, and the community. This position also works closely with other services in supporting and coordination of care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide emergency service and paramedic interventions within a harm reduction model at a supervised consumption site.
• Conduct comprehensive physical and mental health assessments.
• Deliver harm reduction supplies and supervised consumption clinical interventions and education.
• Distribute naloxone and provide other health education and support through the Safeworks program.
• Perform immunizations, distribute safer sex and drug use supplies, and provide basic wound care.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Primary Care Paramedic program. Active registration with Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP) as Primary Care Paramedic. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). Completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (test taken no more than six months from the application date).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in harm reduction opioid treatment preferred.
