Job Summary


Canadian Blood Services is seeking a Phlebotomist (Plasma Associate) to join our dynamic team. As a Phlebotomist (Plasma Associate), you will be responsible for promoting a positive experience for donors throughout the collection process and taking initiative to ensure that donors are engaged and their needs are met. You will also apply your experience and training in phlebotomy to perform venipuncture according to established standards, monitoring donors for safety and comfort, and providing post-donation care and instruction.


About the Team


The Plasma Operations team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by establishing the planning framework and operational infrastructure necessary to meet plasma collection goals. This team advances our strategy in securing a domestic supply of plasma for immune globulin and ensuring Canadians have access to these life-saving products.


Key Responsibilities



  • Leverage excellent customer service skills to promote a positive experience for donors throughout the collection process.
  • Utilize superior interpersonal and communication skills to greet and assist all plasma donors as they progress through the donation process in an engaging and positive manner.
  • Apply experience and training in phlebotomy to perform venipuncture according to established standards, monitoring donors for safety and comfort, and providing post-donation care and instruction.
  • Ensure accuracy of product information in our IT system, when completing the product labeling process, and when preparing products for freezing, centrifuging and shipment to our testing facilities.
  • Contribute to the framework of continuous improvement and implementation of best practice standards with the team.

Requirements



  • Completion of post-secondary education in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution, preferably in science/health-related fields of study.
  • Completion of an accredited training program in phlebotomy is an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive experience working with the public, particularly in a high customer-focused environment.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems and programs. Previous knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook are considered assets.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with current Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • A second language is considered an asset to support a positive donor experience.

Working Environment


Shifts/hours will vary. You must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts which are based on operational needs. Shifts include days, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.


Physical Requirements


The ability to lift weight up to 10 kg (22 lbs.) is required for this role.
