Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Cognitive Behaviour Therapist to join our team at Island Health. As a key member of our mental health services, you will provide evidence-based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) to adults with complex mental health needs.

Salary and Benefits

The successful candidate can expect a competitive salary range of $85,000-$105,000 per year, commensurate with experience. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, including medical and dental coverage, retirement savings plan, and paid time off.

Key Responsibilities

As a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing individual and group CBT sessions to adults with mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, and trauma.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment plans that address the unique needs of each client.
  • Conducting assessments, diagnosis, and formulation of clients' mental health issues.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with clients, their families, and community agencies to ensure continuity of care.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A Ph.D. in Clinical or Counselling Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Registration with, or eligibility for registration with, the College of Psychology of BC.
  • A minimum of five years of recent related experience working with adult clientele in mental health and addictions facilities or related fields.
  • Experience with short-term treatment and group psychotherapy work.
  • Specific expertise and experience with treatment in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is essential.
  • Knowledge of and experience with treatment specific to crisis stabilization, urgent response, and Borderline Personality Disorder, such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, will be an important asset.
  • A valid BC Driver's licence.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of community dynamics, agencies, and resources.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of community and facility contacts.
  • Ability to respect clients' rights, values, and preferences, including multi-cultural issues.
  • Knowledge of the interactions between addictions and mental disorders.
