Job Title: Functional Analyst

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Functional Analyst to maintain the technical and financial reporting aspects of the FAST Research Module. This role will focus on liaising with Research Accountants, PIs, and faculty to create customized reports, ensure functionality, and troubleshoot issues. The Functional Analyst will work with management and staff to provide ongoing system and process support for thousands of users and ensure the University's financial records are reflected and reported accurately in the FAST Research Module.

This position will also participate in the research and development of system enhancements, including software upgrades, customized financial reporting templates, workflow functionality, system integration, and client support. They will use technology to improve the department's overall procedures and processes.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Maintain the technical and financial reporting aspects of the FAST Research Module.
  2. Liaise with Research Accountants, PIs, and faculty to create customized reports and troubleshoot issues.
  3. Work with management and staff to provide ongoing system and process support for thousands of users.
  4. Participate in the research and development of system enhancements, including software upgrades and customized financial reporting templates.
  5. Use technology to improve the department's overall procedures and processes.
Requirements
  1. Bachelor of Commerce degree or related field.
  2. Training in Business System Analysis or other related professional development.
  3. Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in good standing.
  4. Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, including knowledge of financial controls and experience implementing and administrating complex financial management systems.
  5. Experience in developing and implementing business processes with a variety of business clients.
  6. In-depth knowledge of complex technological systems used in an accounting environment.
  7. Experience implementing application and infrastructure solutions.
  8. Experience conducting information risk assessments for external agencies.
  9. Experience reviewing system requirements and recommending appropriate system management measures.
  10. Experience with multiple hardware and software environments.
  11. Broad experience with tools and technologies used to design, plan, and validate financial data.
  12. Experience with system implementations, applications, and business processes.
  13. Experience working in a complex computer accounting and information system environment.
  14. Experience communicating financial information to non-financial staff and faculty.
  15. Experience with interpreting policies, contracts, and guidelines, conducting oversight, and monitoring compliance with such, and the implementation of internal controls and processes to support this.
  16. Experience advising on financial best practices, policies, and procedures and promoting compliance.
  17. Experience conducting financial and system training.
  18. Experience with full-cycle accounting, budget oversight, conducting financial and statistical analysis, and preparing financial and statistical reports.
  19. Experience auditing or overseeing financial processes for compliance with policies, procedures, or guidelines.
  20. Previous experience working in a major financial system and familiarity with the University of Manitoba or non-profit environment and culture.
  21. An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  22. Skilled in the advanced use of a personal computer and desktop software Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, and Windows XP).
  23. Demonstrated design and documentation skills.
  24. Demonstrated planning and organizational skills.
  25. Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  26. Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
  27. Ability to analyze large volumes of information with speed, accuracy, and attention to detail in order to meet strict deadlines.
