About the Opportunity
A high-performance video compression engineer is required to join our team at Amazon Development Centre Canada ULC. We are a reputable organization in the industry, trusted by top names to deliver exceptional video quality per bit.

We offer a competitive salary of $185,000 - $220,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications, plus additional benefits such as comprehensive health insurance, retirement savings plan, and paid time off.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement improved video filters, including scalers, deinterlacors, and perceptual filters
- Improve the quality per bit in our home-grown video encoders
- Enhance compute performance of our video processing functions

About the Team
We are an experienced team distributed across Vancouver, Portland, and San Jose, consisting of doers who focus on solving customer problems with innovative ideas and production code.

Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software development experience
- Experience leading design or architecture of new and existing systems
- Mentorship and technical leadership experience
- 5+ years of video codec development experience, particularly AV1, HEVC, H.264, and MPEG2

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Practical experience applying machine learning to solve complex problems
- Expertise in designing and implementing video filters
