About the Role:

The Manager, Communications will play a key leadership role in developing and implementing a comprehensive strategic communications plan for the department. This plan will focus on enhancing the profile of McMaster University and the AVP, Real Estate, Ancillary Operations and Partnerships, goals, objectives, and successes among key internal and external audiences.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in strategic planning, relationship management, and project management. They will be responsible for developing and managing a proactive communications program with an emphasis on storytelling and reputation development. This will include creating and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy that showcases the department's strategy and brand.

The Manager will work closely with the Associate Vice President, Real Estate, Ancillary Operations and Partnerships, and other leaders across the University to achieve key goals. They will be responsible for overseeing digital communications, website development and content, social media, and emerging digital opportunities. The Manager will also provide leadership in the implementation of the University's branding and marketing strategy within the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic communications plan for the department.
  • Manage and develop a proactive communications program with an emphasis on storytelling and reputation development.
  • Oversee digital communications, website development and content, social media, and emerging digital opportunities.
  • Provide leadership in the implementation of the University's branding and marketing strategy within the department.
  • Act as a university spokesperson, as required.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Communications or a related field.
  • 4-5 years progressive experience in communications, public relations, or a similar position.
  • Experience in social media and digital communications is required.
  • Ability to be a leader within a highly decentralized environment.
  • Demonstrated time management skills with ability to quickly set priorities and manage multiple projects in a timely and effective manner.
