Overview

The Chief Treasury Officer - Corporate Banking plays a pivotal role in overseeing the operations of the Treasury department at SMBC, ensuring seamless execution of financial goals and budget targets. Reporting to senior management, this individual will be responsible for managing treasury positions across various markets, including Foreign Exchange, Money Market, FX Derivatives, and Capital Markets.

This key position involves directing and executing foreign exchange, money market, derivative, and capital market activities to meet customer requirements and mitigate exposure to volatile market movements. The successful candidate will have expertise in derivative products such as Interest Rate Swaps, Cross Currency Swaps, and Currency Options to support corporate customers and hedge the Bank's exposure.

  • Direct daily cash balances and trading in financial markets to ensure adequate cash flow for efficient operation, prudent cash flow forecasting, and anticipating challenges from changes in market sentiment.
  • Diversify funding sources through corporate and interbank deposits and issuance of treasury funding products like short-term and medium-term bank deposit notes to provide adequate funding for loan assets and maintain internal liquidity requirements.
  • Manage the Bank's FX exposure in all approved currencies prudently and within established guidelines and policies to enhance profitability, liaise with Business Promotions and Management to formulate marketing strategies, and collaborate with CRO and CCO to mature the Branch's liquidity and funding risk management framework.
Key Responsibilities
  • Act as Co-secretary to the Branch ALCO, presenting Balance Sheet position, outlook, and forecasts on a periodic basis to Senior management.
  • Maintain all requisite Treasury-related Policies and Procedure documents.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Treasury department, reviewing and managing trading limits, book level access, and individual traders/dealers' performance.
  • Ensure compliance with Treasury position limits, profit & loss limits, approved inter-bank and corporate credit limits, and anti-money laundering regulations.
Qualifications and Skills
  • An Undergraduate degree in business, economics, or related subjects is mandatory.
  • A strong understanding and working knowledge of money markets, FX, Capital Markets, economics, and analysis of markets and trends are essential.
  • Proficiency in using Reuters 3000 Dealing System, Microsoft Office, and above-average Excel skills are required.
  • Strong reasoning ability, excellent time management skills, and ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and work independently are crucial.
  • Knowledge and understanding of foreign banks are desirable.
