About the Role

The Maintenance Worker plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our community. Reporting to the General Manager, Maintenance Manager, or designate, this position is responsible for performing day-to-day maintenance activities to maintain the safety and security of all individuals.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Regular maintenance, repairs, and building improvements:
    • Inspect and diagnose equipment malfunctions, recommending replacements or upgrades as needed.
    • Inspect alarm, call, and security systems, logging information daily.
    • Schedule and supervise service work in the absence of the Maintenance Manager.
    • Complete general repairs to electrical, plumbing, and other building components, utilizing expertise as an experienced maintenance trade person.
    • Be available for emergency call-ins.
    • Maintain a painting/touch-up schedule.
  • Environmental Issues:
    • Implement snow removal and de-icing programs, either directly or via a contractor as directed.
    • Support the pest control program.
    • Maintain organized and safe work and storage areas.
  • Fire & Life Safety:
    • Assist in fire safety drills and comply with fire regulations.
    • Implement all repair and maintenance activities in a safe manner, adhering to Work Safe BC regulations.
    • Maintain a safe environment for residents, family, and staff through accident prevention, knowledge of emergency procedures, and the safe use of supplies and equipment.
  • Maintenance Management:
    • Maintain a log entry of daily routines, general repairs, scheduled, and non-scheduled maintenance items on all equipment.
  • Team Player:
    • Provide support or instruction to staff operating community equipment.
    • Take initiatives in gaining knowledge and skill relating to the maintenance position.
    • Actively participate in orientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, committees, and educational in-services.
    • Required to work positively and collaboratively with all team members and supervisors.
    • Maintain a neat appearance and be attired in clean, safe, and presentable clothing.
    • Wear rubber-soled, steel-toed safety shoes when needed.
Qualifications & Skills

Requirements include:

  • Minimum 1-year work experience related to building or community maintenance.
  • Knowledge of and capability to complete tasks relating to general painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, heating systems, and gardening.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
  • A basic level of computer knowledge – Microsoft Office and various maintenance software.
  • A demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize the schedule of maintenance and workload planning.
  • An ability to communicate professionally with residents, staff, visitors, and contractors.
  • All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
  • Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work with cleaners, detergents, and other cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
