Job Overview

This role is a critical part of the Provincial Health Services Authority's (PHSA) operations, providing exceptional customer service to the public while operating a multi-line computerized hospital switchboard console. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to multitask, and maintain confidentiality in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Operate a multifunctional switchboard console by answering all calls, acknowledging callers, listening attentively, and asking questions to clarify their inquiries.
  • Transfer phone calls to appropriate locals, provide information, and respond to caller needs in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Respond to each hospital alarm in a timely manner as per established guidelines.
  • Operate the Public Address system as per established guidelines.
  • Operate the paging system to page Doctors, Nurses, and other on-call staff as required per established guidelines.
  • Provide TTD service for hearing-impaired customers by utilizing a Telecommunications device.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 and one year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to keyboard at 40 wpm.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
Benefits

The successful candidate can expect a competitive salary of approximately $50,000 - $60,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. Additionally, they will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including a municipal pension plan, psychological health & safety programs, and holistic wellness resources. Annual statutory holidays (13) with generous vacation entitlement and accruement are also included.
