About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Unit Manager to join our team at Intact Financial Corporation. As a Unit Manager, Legal Claims Support, you will play a critical role in overseeing the day-to-day responsibilities of our Law Clerks, Legal Assistants, and Administrative Support members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and communicate clear performance objectives for your team and continually measure progress on the attainment of these objectives.
  • Ensure a high level of employee engagement by monitoring overall engagement and creating and executing engagement action plans.
  • Assess the strengths and areas of opportunity for your team and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Provide regular and ongoing feedback, mentoring, and coaching to your team.
  • Identify key talent and provide ongoing developmental opportunities for the optimization and engagement of our key talent.
  • Lead the recruitment process, including interviewing and selecting candidates, and onboarding new employees.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings, one-on-ones, and huddles to ensure a two-way flow of information.
  • Assist your team in understanding and applying policies, procedures, and theories.
  • Drive change while maintaining effective communication to ensure your team is informed of new initiatives, processes, and workflows.
  • Plan and implement office systems and organize office operations and procedures.
  • Partner with HR to lead the recruitment process and onboarding of new employees.
  • Participate in project-based tasks as assigned by the Director and/or VP Legal Claims.
  • Compile and analyze statistics and reports while monitoring and predicting legal trends.

Requirements

  • University degree or college diploma in a relevant discipline (legal, paralegal, or management) or equivalent education combined with relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of five to eight years of experience in a litigation environment or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum of two years of management experience or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Proven and effective communication and interpersonal skills to develop and foster favorable relationships.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs, I-Manager, and other e-discovery tools.
  • Proven project management skills, including planning, leading, and successfully executing projects.
  • Experience implementing and driving change by encouraging innovative thinking and changes in an operation.
  • Experience leading a large team, including establishing and measuring performance, providing open and honest feedback, and maintaining employee engagement.
