Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental, Ecological and Outdoor Education Specialist to join our team at Fort William Historical Park. As a key member of our education team, you will play a vital role in developing and implementing unique and creative educational programs that showcase the park's rich history and natural environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement educational programs that integrate science, history, culture, ecology, and the environment to promote a deeper understanding of the relationships between nature, people, and land use.
  • Collaborate with academics, educators, and enthusiasts to develop, implement, and monitor quality astronomical and related natural science programs.
  • Design and deliver curriculum-based programs and learning experiences that explore the natural world and promote environmental stewardship.
  • Research and identify new program opportunities that align with environmental assessment guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a safety lead and trainer for on-water programs, ensuring the well-being of participants and staff.
  • Plan, develop, and implement educational and recreational programming activities that cater to diverse audiences and interests.
Requirements
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with stakeholders, facilitate historical dramatizations, and prepare reports.
  • Facilitation, training, and instructional skills to guide and teach others.
  • Ability to create and maintain stakeholder relationships.
  • Research, interpretative, and evaluative skills to develop and implement programs focused on astronomical, environmental, ecological, and recreational themes.
  • Problem-solving skills to resolve issues and respond to emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of astronomical principles, research-grade astronomical instruments, and regulatory guidelines related to environmentally sensitive flora and fauna.
  • Training and program experience in outdoor ecological and environmental education.
