Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a clinical/technical resource for staff regarding patient and family care issues;
  • Work closely with other DI Team Leads to provide an integrated service delivery model that encourages/facilitates cross-training of technologists;
  • Addresses everyday issues patients may experience (e.g., wait times, patient complaints);
  • Facilitates decision making by promoting collaboration and cooperation amongst team members;
  • Protects patient and family privacy by creating an environment that is safe and secure;
  • Ensures DI services reflect the principles of family-centered care;
  • Ensures and promotes workplace safety;
  • Ensures radiation safety practices are adhered to;
  • Participates in recruitment and selection of staff as required;
  • Identifies clinical issues requiring staff education and consults with DI management before collaborating with appropriate individuals to address learning needs;
  • Demonstrates personal commitment to continuous learning through participation in activities such as in-service programs, conferences, and continuing professional development;
  • Responsible for ensuring optimal equipment performance by overseeing quality control activities and ensuring engagement of staff and service vendors, as required;
  • Supports colleagues in their ongoing development by offering constructive feedback, mentoring team members through supportive teaching and coaching;
  • Monitors staff productivity and patient wait times, and makes appropriate adjustments to address any delays;
  • Establishes and maintains a working relationship with all patient care areas within the health centre;
  • Orients new staff and students to the department, and responsible for oversight;
  • Prioritizes tasks, assigns work, and monitors progress to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Champions new practices and programs to help ensure staff compliance;
  • Represents the department on groups and committees with respect to changes that will affect the operation of the department and offers input on modifications necessary to implement these changes;
  • Provides input toward evaluation of services delivered by monitoring daily protocols and quality including physician feedback;
  • Performs regular analysis of workload and procedures, and provides advice with regard to changes that may be required in consultation with DI management and medical lead;
  • Fulfills the duties of a Nuclear Medicine technologist (including, but not limited to taking client medical history, explaining the medical imaging procedure, performing imaging procedure, developing and evaluating images for positioning and image quality, and completing the associated paperwork).

$38.93 - $44.40/hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Your Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of related clinical experience is required;
  • Graduate of a recognized school of imaging technology is required;
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with the NS College of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Professionals (NSCIMRTP);
  • Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support (BLS) Program within the last 12 months or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate is required;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal is required;
  • Demonstrated effective decision making and sound problem-solving skills; ability to make independent technical decisions is required;
  • Demonstrated personal commitment to ongoing relevant learning is required;
  • Previous leadership experience in a healthcare environment is preferred;
  • Conflict resolution skills are an asset;
  • Team building skills and experience working effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team are an asset;
  • Familiarity with PACS and HIS/RIS system is an asset;
  • Competency in a second language is an asset.
