About the Job

The Plant Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of production at our manufacturing site. This key role involves ensuring the overall performance of production, including establishing and maintaining business objectives, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental responsibilities, and developing and leading a skilled and engaged team.

Responsibilities

  1. * Ensures excellence through the 5 plant fundamentals of safety, housekeeping, preventive maintenance, productivity, and quality.
  2. * Maintains good customer service and responsiveness.
  3. * Coordinates day-to-day planning and production of required products.
  4. * Ensures the business meets expected financial returns, company, and site goals.
  5. * Develops a culture of continuous improvement to drive excellence across all functions and personnel roles.
  6. * Leverages best practices across sites, including sharing new best practices and learning from other sites.
  7. * Ensures that bills of materials are accurate, and products are manufactured within budget and quality commitments.
  8. * Spends at least 80% of time on the production floor, interacting with plant teams and leadership.
  9. * Ensures site adheres to internal control guidelines.
  10. * Assists in preparation of the annual production budget and capital project requests.
  11. * Uses key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress, including profit and loss statements, daily production reports, business intelligence dashboards, Vorne XL boards, and other operational reports and tools.
  12. * Ensures all operational initiatives are implemented at the site.
  13. * Holds self and employees accountable for developing and implementing best practices and doing what is right for the business.
  14. * Directs and monitors the work of direct reports in accordance with business plans, site, and individual goals.
  15. * Evaluates employee performance and recommends appropriate actions to leadership.
  16. * Directs development of training programs to promote employee engagement.
  17. * Utilizes standardized skills matrices and customized job interviews by role to ensure consistency in hiring talent that aligns with the required skillset for each role on the site.
  18. * Sets expectations with employees on delivering good customer service and responsiveness.
  19. * Ensures high-quality products that meet on-time delivery expectations.
  20. * Responsible for developing his or her technical knowledge by learning from employees.

Safety

  1. * Takes a leadership role in all investigations involving first aid or greater injury severity and property damage incidents considered greater than 'minor'.
  2. * Ensures any reported hazards are immediately mitigated and resolved in a timely manner.
  3. * Attends and supports monthly safety training sessions.

Productivity

  1. * Ensures production plans and schedules are in place, and the team is executing them.
  2. * Drives labor best practices, managing on-time starts, and employee overtime through operational tools and business intelligence dashboards.
  3. * Conducts daily shift huddles, utilizing huddle boards.
  4. * Ensures site leaders are leveraging shift huddle data to manage downtime and working with maintenance lead to manage PM schedules.
  5. * Leads weekly site performance reviews with production and maintenance leads.
  6. * Leads monthly downtime workshops, utilizing operational dashboards and tools, and including production and maintenance leads.
  7. * Reports site performance using KPIs and operational dashboards in a monthly performance review with business leaders.

Quality

  1. * Directs the implementation of a best-in-class quality program to ensure consistent, top-quality products with minimal defects.
  2. * Ensures products meet and exceed customer expectations.
  3. * Ensures products meet and exceed company-set specifications and are manufactured within budget and quality commitments.

Requirements

  1. * Previous knowledge of production equipment is a desirable asset.
  2. * Basic knowledge of wet cast/dry cast and precast concrete production processes.
  3. * Good mechanical and electrical skills.
  4. * Excellent leadership and team-building skills.
  5. * Proficient use of basic computer software, including Microsoft Office products, internet, and email.
