We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Insurance Accountant to join our team at BCAA. As a key member of our accounting team, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of our financial information through effective accounting policies and practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, consolidations, and note disclosures.
  • Prepare and review assigned G/L account reconciliations between the general ledger and insurance sub-systems.
  • Evaluate and recommend new accounting policies as the need arises in accordance with ASPE, NPO-accounting and IFRS.
  • Prepare and review working papers for quarterly and annual P&C-1 insurance reporting to external regulators (BCFSA and/or OSFI), and assist with tax compliance filings (GST, corporate income tax, premium tax).
  • Prepare and reconcile insurance results and related schedules for our insurance broker and reinsurers.
  • Assist in the completion of all external audits for the BCAA group of companies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business/Commerce with a concentration in Finance/Accounting from a recognized university.
  • CPA designation.
  • Minimum of four years accounting or auditing experience in an environment with multiple accounting standards and business units (Insurance or financial institution industry experience preferred).
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory filings, including P&C returns, coupled with strong technical accounting skills and a keen understanding of current and emerging accounting and taxation pronouncements.
