About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Risk Management Specialist to join our Global Wealth and Asset Management team at Manulife and John Hancock. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting the Operational Risk Officer in designing, implementing, and delivering an effective risk governance and management program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the development and implementation of the operational risk framework.
  • Conduct risk and control assessments, documenting key risks and controls, and developing action plans to remediate control gaps.
  • Contribute to the development of key risk indicators to track identified risks.
  • Collect, review, and reconcile internal and external risk incidents/loss events, ensuring timely resolution, including root cause analysis.
  • Contribute to the design and execution of scenario analysis for key risks.
  • Support change management for new products, business initiatives, and strategies, assessing their impact on the division's risk profile.
  • Develop close partnerships with business and functional leaders to ensure key risks are properly identified, managed, and mitigated.
  • Support the development and maintenance of Global Wealth & Asset Management level Risk Appetite Statements and associated metrics.
  • Contribute to developing a strong risk culture and working with the business to reinforce accountability and transparency across the organization.
  • Provide support for risk aggregation and reporting.
Requirements
  • Expertise in the Wealth and Asset management industry across various asset classes, including fixed income, equities, real estate, private debt, mortgages, derivatives, with knowledge of various vehicle types such as separate accounts, mutual funds, and ETFs.
  • Significant experience in the design, implementation, and/or execution of the Operational Risk Management framework for a large financial institution.
  • A seasoned risk professional with a minimum 5 years of risk management, finance, and/or audit experience.
  • Solid understanding of the industry and familiarity with the current regulatory environment.
  • Proven expertise and knowledge of ORM concepts and practices, including risk and control self-assessments, risk indicators, risk events, and scenario analysis.
  • A strong moral compass and a commitment to high ethical standards.
  • Strong collaboration and partnering skills, with the ability to develop effective working relationships with business and functional partners to influence decisions.
  • Strong program and project management skills to independently manage multiple, conflicting priorities and deliver a quality result within established timelines.
  • A highly motivated and results-driven individual with an established track record in building effective programs and bringing strategy into action.
  • Highly developed business sense, with the ability to synthesize complex information from various sources, identifying key points and issues.
  • Solid analytical and creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to motivate others to implement new solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex technical issues.
