Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre. As a key member of our Laboratory Services department, you will be responsible for performing laboratory procedures, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform laboratory procedures for histology functions and grossing, microtomy, embedding, staining, and ensuring the completion of assigned workload.
  • Screen each cytology slide and record all findings for review by Pathologist.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and clean laboratory equipment and work area.
  • Participate in teaching, educational, safety, and quality improvement programs.
  • Observe and understand hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to hospital and departmental mission and vision statements while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Perform cross-functional duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements
  • General certification in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized post-secondary institute.
  • Certification through the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) in areas of responsibility required.
  • Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (CMLTO) in areas of responsibility required.
  • Participation in professional committees, networks recommended.
  • Minimum one (1) year recent laboratory experience in related discipline(s), as required by assigned area, preferred.
  • General knowledge of all areas of the laboratory preferred.
  • General knowledge of the theory and practices of applicable laboratory procedures and equipment required.
  • Meditech and LIS knowledge and experience an asset.
  • Experience with current instrumentation/automation in respective area an asset.
Qualifications
  • CSMLS registration in Cytopathology.
  • Currently licensed in good standing by CMLTO to practice as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) in the province of Ontario in Histology.
  • Evidence of competency with respect to Cytology as per CMLTO guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Quality Control Programs and equipment maintenance – required.
Experience
  • Cytology – minimum 1 year experience.
  • Histology – experience is an asset.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced laboratory environment, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential. The candidate must also be able to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

Please note that as a Regional Health Centre, our operations run 24/7. Depending on the program for which you are applying, it may be an expectation that you are available to work week days and weekends, as well as all shifts – days, evenings, and nights.
