About the Role

The CSU Support Safety Instrumented Systems Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the LNGC facilities during the Commissioning and Start-up phases. This includes supporting process control and safeguarding functionality, as well as troubleshooting, maintaining, and continuously improving instrumented safety critical elements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support operations and other interfaces on safeguarding schemes as needed.
  • Support SIS activities such as online modifications, trip investigation and troubleshooting, alarm management support, and documentation support.
  • Support SIS Authorities in functional and detailed design, development, testing, and implementation of Management of Change (MOC) with process control and safeguarding scope as needed.
  • Proactively participate in CSU and ramp-up related activities and be an active member of the Asset Delivery Team (ADT) when required.
  • Provide high-quality support for process control and improvement of control and safeguarding systems for the LNGC and interfaces.
  • Deliver SIS aspects of LNGC in accordance with project HSE, technical standards, quality standards, and procedures as defined in the Contract and Project Specification.
  • Optimize processes to improve safety performance standards and maintain Safety Integrity Levels (SIL).
  • Review safeguarding content of plant modifications and changes, as well as instrument trip and alarm settings, to ensure plant integrity and design objectives are met.
  • Ensure documents, such as control and IPF narratives, functional design specifications, etc., are maintained and as-built comments are accurately kept.
  • Participate in required HSE activities, such as audits and meetings, and demonstrate safe work practices and procedures to contractors at all times.
  • Support the implementation of control and safeguarding functionality in DCS and SIS.
Requirements
  • University degree or equivalent in Control Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or Mathematics.
  • 8+ years of experience working with SIS in the process or oil and gas industries.
  • In-depth knowledge of Functional Safety Standard (IEC 61508 and IEC 61511).
  • Strong understanding of Process Safety concepts, such as HAZOP, LOPA, and risk assessments.
  • Understanding of SIL verification and validation.
  • Troubleshooting skills with SIS systems, including logic solvers, sensors, and actuators.
  • 2+ years of Yokogawa Centum VP and Yokogawa ProSafe experience.
  • Certification in Functional Safety (TUV, CFSE, or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Wider appreciation of Gas/LNG business processes and principles, and experience in a Gas/LNG Major Project is an advantage.
  • Ability to contribute to decision support and assurance, as well as organizing and/or carrying out hands-on technical evaluations.
  • Sound systematic approach to technical and multi-disciplinary challenges, with strong analytical abilities and knowledge of engineering tools and simulations.
  • Able to integrate projects and initiatives while managing inter-cultural sensitivities and leveraging diversity and inclusion.
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills.
Work Environment

This role requires living and working in Kitimat, BC. During the CSU Phase, the work schedule will be 50 hours per week, with 10-hour days, which may need to be extended to 12-hour day/night shifts during critical start-up activities.

The successful candidate will be required to comply with LNGC's drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures.

They will also be required to undergo a pre-placement medical assessment of their fitness for duty, a background check, and Pre-Site Access testing for alcohol and specified drugs.

The candidate must be legally entitled to work in Canada, either by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid work permit.
