Job Description


We are seeking a skilled Mental Health Specialist to join our team at PHSA in Coquitlam, BC. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals struggling with complex mental health and substance use challenges.


About the Role


This position plays a vital role in providing direct care and support services to patients with concurrent disorders, including alcohol and/or drug abuse issues. The successful candidate will conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments, develop treatment plans, and provide evidence-based individual, group, and family therapies. Additionally, they will work closely with the treatment team to coordinate activities and document patient progress.


Key Responsibilities



  • Conduct intake and comprehensive psychosocial assessments of adults experiencing severe psychiatric and behavioural difficulties
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, incorporating evidence-based practices and principles of harm reduction
  • Provide direct concurrent disorders treatment and support services, including therapeutic counselling and group programs
  • Collaborate with the treatment team to coordinate activities, ensure smooth transitions, and maintain accurate records
  • Participate in community education, prevention, and awareness activities related to dual diagnosis clients

Requirements


To be successful in this role, you must have:



  • A Master's degree in an Allied Health Discipline from a recognized program
  • Three (3) years recent related experience in an addictions and mental health setting, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
  • Valid BC Drivers License and local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle
  • Advanced knowledge of comprehensive psychosocial assessments and treatment services, as well as developmental theories, family dynamics, and treatment modalities
  • A commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in foundational documents, including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study
