Reporting to the Senior Policy Advisor, you will be responsible for assessing the potential impacts of various public policy, regulatory, and related market issues on our growth strategy and operations, with a focus on electricity policy, regulation, and markets within and outside of Alberta.
As part of the ATCO group of companies, ATCO EnPower is a critical business line for ATCO's commitment to sustainability and a Net-Zero future for generations to come. With operations in Canada and Mexico, we're uniquely positioned in the industry and have an integrated business portfolio of innovative solutions in clean energy storage, industrial water, wind, solar, and hydro power generation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and staying informed of upcoming policy changes, emerging regulations, engagement opportunities, and changing political trends and public sentiment affecting our growth strategies in relevant jurisdictions.
- Evaluating and communicating policy and regulatory impacts on our projects and growth strategy, including identification of regulatory or policy risks and opportunities in the provincial, national, and global policy context.
- Supporting the development of policy and regulatory advocacy positions on emerging government or regulatory initiatives, relevant activities, and applications to the AUC, initiatives, and engagements of the AESO, and relevant authorities in other jurisdictions of strategic interest to our business activities.
- Evaluating and incorporating commercial and technical limitations or needs in support of various growth strategies or opportunities in the development of these positions.
- Effectively communicating with various stakeholders and industry associations to progress our development activities.
- Facilitating internal collaboration and alignment of positions in respect of our strategies, providing solutions that progress our short and long-term growth initiatives and ensuring conflicts of interest between strategic growth areas are identified.
Requirements include:
- Bachelor's degree in business, economics, or public policy or a related field.
- Progressive experience and knowledge in electricity markets, including market fundamentals.
- Ability to evaluate financial and commercial impacts of government policy and regulatory decisions on ATCO's strategic initiatives and a strong understanding of economic drivers of ATCO's business.
- Ability to understand and execute on a broad range of business areas, including ability to quickly become knowledgeable on emerging issues and effectively and strategically apply new knowledge.
- Demonstrated ability to be resourceful, including an ability to research requirements of new business activities or new jurisdictions.
- Ability to evaluate the financial and commercial impacts of government policy and regulatory decisions on our development opportunities.
- Strong business analytics capabilities, including strong analytical skills, ability to think strategically, and analyze and synthesize diverse qualitative and quantitative data and information.
- Excellent communication skills (written/verbal) including strong technical writing skills and an ability to translate recommendations and other ideas effectively and concisely in reports, presentation materials, and other written communication.
- Developing strong and trusted relationships with internal stakeholders, including executives, development teams, and external stakeholders.
