Quality Control Specialist for Animation Projects

Bardel Entertainment is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Control Specialist to join our team in Vancouver, Canada. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the final polish of shots and resolving technical issues before rendering and delivery.

We are an internationally recognized, Emmy Award-winning studio with over 35 years of experience in the animation industry. Our talented team has worked on top audience hits such as The Dragon Prince, Rick and Morty, Teen Titans Go, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and troubleshoot issues post-final review without altering the creative direction.
- Finalize and clean up shots as requested by downstream departments, ensuring adherence to both artistic and technical standards.
- Resolve geometry, rigging, or animation issues that could impact rendering quality.
- Make minor character and prop adjustments while preserving the intended visual style.
Collaboration and Feedback:
- Work closely with the CG Supervisor and team to ensure consistent style across all shots.
- Incorporate supervisor feedback to improve shot quality and address technical concerns.
- Collaborate with departments such as Animation, CFX, FX, Lighting, and Compositing to ensure a seamless workflow.
Technical Optimization:
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges during the finaling process.
- Deliver high-quality work within project deadlines while meeting studio standards.
- Ensure caches provided to downstream departments are properly organized, optimized, and pipeline-compatible.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in animation or VFX in a similar role.
- A portfolio demonstrating general knowledge of modeling, shading, CFX, and lighting, solid understanding of the principles of animation, attention to detail and continuity, and basic foundation in Python.
Skills:
- Proficiency in Maya, Katana, and Nuke; familiarity with Houdini is a plus.
- Scripting knowledge for process automation is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of technical requirements for finalizing shots, including geometry fixes, rigging adjustments, and scene optimization.
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Compensation and Benefits:
This is a full-time position offering a competitive salary range of CAD $1,200 - $1,500 per week, flexible work environment, extended health and wellness from day 1, and RRSP matching.
