Heritage Collection Manager

About the Position
The Curator/Manager will be responsible for the care, display, and interpretation of two historic house museums and their collections. This role requires strong leadership skills, excellent communication and problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily operations, staff, and volunteers at both museums.
- Develop and implement public programming, including guided tours, exhibitions, and educational programs.
- Prepare grant applications and reports, and manage the museums' annual budget.
- Oversee daily finances, admissions, donations, and gift-shop sales.
- Implement marketing initiatives to increase attendance and engagement.
- Maintain the artifact collection and its associated databases and records.
- Curate exhibits and prepare interpretive materials.
- Preserve and develop the museums' heritage buildings and surrounding historic sites.
- Oversee the seasonal opening and closing of the museums.
- Create digital content for the museums' websites and social media accounts.
- Act as liaison between the Board of Directors and the City of Winnipeg.
- Build positive relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
- Respond to media inquiries and act as a public representative of the museums.
- Attend monthly meetings of the Board of Directors to provide operational reports.
Requirements
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in a related field of study, such as museum studies, curatorial studies, Indigenous studies, or history.
- Experience working at a museum, gallery, or cultural institution.
- Experience managing staff and/or volunteers.
- Experience developing and/or coordinating public programming.
- Experience with basic financial procedures and budget management.
- Additional languages an asset.
- Valid CPR and first aid training an asset.
