About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the pre and post-analytical phases of testing, including specimen procurement, data entry, media preparation, and customer service activities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. You will be responsible for performing various functions, including specimen handling, data entry, and media preparation, while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

About You

We are looking for a candidate who is highly motivated, organized, and able to work effectively in a team environment. You will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent
  • Current registration with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects
  • Ability to accurately number/label specimens and file slides/requisitions
  • Ability to adapt to updates/changes in operating procedures
  • Basic computer skills, Meditech experience is preferred
  • Access to reliable transportation as travel may be required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
Hours

This is a casual, short and long assignment and permanent position. Shifts may include days, nights, weekends and holidays. Travel to various sites may be required.

Compensation and Incentives

$26.27 Hourly
